Where Carers and their families come first

Annual General Report 2013

Welcome everyone to the annual general meeting for 2013. It has once again been a very busy year for Northern Carers Network and there are lots of people I would like to thank for their help and support throughout the year.

Board of Management

Over the past year the board has been dealing with challenges and opportunities brought about the introduction of Disability Care Australia and new government reforms in the Aged Care Sector. The Board of Management have been individually and collectively very active in maintaining the ethos and integrity of Northern Carers Network, for and on behalf of members of this organisation.

Each member puts in his or her own time to help guide and support our CEO Maria Ross so that Northern Carers Network remains an important and viable place, for all our Carers to go for help and support and we continue to make a positive difference to the lives of Carers in our community. Thanks to all members of the Board for their time and effort. Well done! A special mention must go to Irene Klose who had to resign from the Board earlier this year due to health issues. Whilst Irene will be sorely missed we hope that she makes a speedy recovery and enjoys good health well into the future.

CEO and Staff

Maria Ross, CEO of Northern Carers Network and the wonderful staff that we have, are the working hub of this organisation. They have a spirit and diversity that is needed to run a successful organisation such as ours and they do it well, from the smallest job to the biggest problem it will be handled and fixed with the efficiency of the well oiled machine that it is. Maria and all the staff deserve our thanks for a job well done.

The Carer Action Group

The Carers Action Group is an important group that meet regularly to have a say about services provided by Northern Carers Network. They also identify gaps and raise issues experienced in their role and that of other Carers. This feedback helps to change and improve the quality of support provided by Northern Carers Network to meet the changing needs of Carers in the community.

One of the key priorities of the Carer Action Group has been to lobby for more support for Young Carers. In response the NCN Young Carers program has grown with support now offered in the Enfield and Tea Tree Gully areas with assistance received from the local Councils.

Without the support of dedicated volunteers NCN would struggle to provide the range of supports on offer to Carers such as our newsletter, fundraising, opp-shop, telephone support, programs for children with special needs, young carers program, special events and last but not least our Board of Management. Our team of volunteers give up their time selflessly to help others in need which is such an admirable quality. A big thankyou is extended to all our volunteers!

In closing I wish say it has been a great year and I am glad that I have been able to play a small part in helping to support the vision of Northern Carers Network over the past twelve months.

support groups

Northern Carers Network offers access to a range of Support Groups for Carers. Some are specialised and others are more general. Some groups meet monthly and some fortnightly. Some share coffee and a chat and others hear from guest speakers or go out and about. What they all have in common is they provide an opportunity for Carers to connect with people in similar circumstances to their own.
