Breakthru is the Northern Carers Network support program for young people aged 7 - 18 who provide support for a loved one at home. The person being cared for can be a family member, or other person living in the home with a disability, mental or chronic illness. Brothers and sisters of young people with a disability or chronic illness are also welcome in the Breakthru program.
The program itself offers support, counselling, information, advocacy and the chance for young carers to take a break from their responsibilities and connect with other young people who find themselves in similar circumstances.
Breakthru provides support for all children and young people and we respect the communities in which they live.
Contact can be made directly to the Breakthru coordinator at Northern Carers Network by phone on 8284 0388 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
Northern Carers Network offers access to a range of Support Groups for Carers. Some are specialised and others are more general. Some groups meet monthly and some fortnightly. Some share coffee and a chat and others hear from guest speakers or go out and about. What they all have in common is they provide an opportunity for Carers to connect with people in similar circumstances to their own.
